Update

Obviously things have been quite busy on my end; thus the lack of timely posts. I think part of it is that there are so few things I can talk about without couching them in the most general terms, but since I enjoy writing these blogs and people apparently enjoy reading them, here goes:

Last night I worked in the Furlough/Female Unit which is for male inmates who are furloughed out to jobs during the day, and the other unit (which is entirely separate) is for female inmates who are either at the jail as Incaps (incapacitated, mostly drunk or detoxing) or who are serving various sentences through weekend residency at the jail so they can maintain their Monday-Friday job schedules. The guys are fairly self-sufficient and require nominal supervision, but the women tend to be another matter entirely.

This particularly evening, I had two weekenders, a girl who was in there as the result of an apparent domestic dispute, and in the other cell, two women who were being held for felony warrants. Quite the mix, and they kept me busy indeed.

At the end of my eight hour shift, I was "ordered over" (mandatory overtime) to work four hours in The Gym. The Gym is for for inmates from privilege units who have messed up or recent intakes into the jail. They are a motley crew indeed and are always trying to slide one by me. Just the other day, I caught three of them smoking contraband cigarettes in the bathroom and issued a DR on one of them. Obviously, he didn't like that at all and called me naughty names, which earned him point losses for Conduct.

But on the upside, they are learning that I don't mess around.
